LaVina Sellman


    LaVina Lou Sellman, 75, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Benson, Minnesota, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

    She was born on March 14, 1941, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy Wilson Atchison.

    LaVina lived most of her life in Benson, Minnesota. She operated LaVina’s Café for a number of years and worked thirty-five years at the Benson Municipal Liquor Store. She moved to Kirksville, Missouri five years ago to be near her daughters.

    She was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Benson and The Crossing in Kirksville, Missouri. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Kirksville.

    She enjoyed gardening, reading and working on word puzzles.

    LaVina is survived by a son, Jason and Thea Slaughter of Danvers, Minnesota; two daughters, Lisa and Gary Shrouf of Hurdland, Missouri and Sara Williams of Kirksville, Missouri; two brothers, Bob and Margaret Atchison of Deming, Washington and Charley Atchison of Kirksville, Missouri; three sisters, Anita and Milton Armstrong, Laura and Tim Winston all of  Kirksville, Missouri and Dori Atchison of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Cole, Kaine, Austin, Jerrod, Josie, Jessie and Megan; six great grandchildren, Issac, Bryce, Wyatt, Kora, Olivia and Jon Luke; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy Atchison; two husbands, Leonard Slaughter and Leroy Sellman; a son, Jamie Slaughter; a brother, Lee Atchison; three sisters, Judy Halbe, Sheree Atchison, and Bonnie Burns; and two grandsons, Billy and Jesse Shrouf.

    LaVina’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will have private services at a later date.

    Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri is in charge of arrangements.
