    Archie “Leon” McCabe, 78, of Quincy, Illinios, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

    Leon was born on February 12, 1933, in Rutledge, Missouri, the son of John Letus and Mildred Irene Tull McCabe.

    He attended the South Liberty Rural School north of Rutledge, Rutledge High School before graduating from the Baring High School in the Class of 1951.

    After high school Leon served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan.

    On May 14th, 1960, in Quincy, Illinois, Leon married the love of his life, Patricia Ellen Delaney.

    Their first home was in Ft. Madison, Iowa where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. After a couple of years they moved to Peoria, Illinois where Leon attended barber college and became a licensed barber. In the late 1960’s he went into real estate as a salesman, an appraiser and a developer with his good friend Joe Graft. In the 1970’s Leon went to work for the Security Savings and Loan as an appraiser,  loan officer and after 29 years, retired as an Assistant Vice President. Leon was loved by all of his family and many friends, who will miss him.

    Leon is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joann (Delaney) Echternacht of Macon, Missouri and Eilene McCabe of Rutledge, Missouri, four nieces, Connie (Dailing) and her husband David Lawson of Peoria Heights, Illinois, Cindy (McCabe) and her husband Jack Guthrie of Jefferson City, Missouri, Carol McCabe of Rutledge, Missouri, Cheryl (McCabe) and her husband Jim Nowell of Gower, Missouri; one nephew, Dick and his wife Cindy Dailing of Watertown, Minnesota, and several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents, Letus and Mildred McCabe; brother, Hillis McCabe; sister, Shirley McCabe; and brother-in-law, Bill Echternacht.

     Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    The visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2011, with the family receiving friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

    Sam Smith will officiate and music will be provided by Nancy Reardon and Brent Karhoff. Casket Bearers will be Jack Guthrie, Jim Nowell, David Lawson, Nick Oldham, Dick Dailing and Jon Guthrie.

    The family suggests that memorials, in memory of Leon McCabe, may be left to the Pauline Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
