     Dale Bruce Nichols, 80, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Edina, Missouri passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

    Dale was born on August 18, 1931, in Dumas, Missouri, the son of Jewel and Vera Pulse Nichols.

    He moved a lot when his father worked for the Rail Road and was raised in Rutledge, Missouri, where he attended the Rutledge Elementary School before graduating from the Baring High School in the Class of 1949.

    On September 27, 1952, in Edina, Missouri, Dale married Ella Irene Shubert.

    They raised six children while living in Baring, Greensburg, Ft. Madison, Hurdland and Edina over the years. Dale operated the Nichols Service Station in Baring, Missouri, delivered gas for R.L. Cahalan Oil Company, and L.P. Gas for NEMO COOP before retiring. He enjoyed trains and the railroad, farming and bowling, but most of all he loved time spent with family and especially his grandchildren.

    He was a member of the Baring Community Church and the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #414, where he received his 50 year pin.

    Dale is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Irene Nichols of Kirksville, Missouri; two sons, Jerry and his wife Clara Nichols of Knox City, Missouri and Jamie Nichols of Knox City, Missouri; four daughters, Victoria and her husband Terry Sadler of Macon, Missouri, Donna and her husband Wayne Miller of Ocala, Florida, Jennifer and her husband Gary Bradley of Kirksville, Missouri and Cheryl and her husband Hermann Spilker of Bethel, Missouri; two sisters, Opal Arnold of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Wilma and her husband Gil Rubio of Alpina, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Madeline Nichols of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Helen Nichols of Marceline, Missouri, Jane and her husband Lanny Bowen of Kirksville, Missouri and Janice and her husband Kim Smith of Edina, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Bill Shubert and Lawrence Schroeder both of Edina, Missouri, Victor Shubert of Hannibal, Missouri, Jerry “Jake” Shubert of Taylor, Missouri, and Francis “Frank” Shubert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren, Jason and Tabitha Nichols, P.J. Nichols, Lesleigh Furry, Angela and Joe Shaw, Julie and Matt Campbell, Jennifer and Rob Cerda, Saricca and Jason Taunton, Collin and Brittany Miller, Jesse Bradley, Maggie Bradley, Benjamin Spilker, Wyatt Spilker, Christopher Nichols, Corey Nichols and Johnathan Nichols; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Vera Nichols; a sister, Martha Pettit; three brothers, Jewel “Red”, Wayne and John “J.P.” Nichols, two brothers-in-law, Don “Bud” Arnold and Stanley Pettit; three sisters-in-law, Mary Schroeder, Libby Shubert and Virginia Nichols; three grandsons, Nicholas Dale Spilker, Jeremy Dale Niles and Travis Atlee Bradley.

    Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.

    Burial will be in the Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg, Missouri.

    Pastor John Davison will officiate and Casket Bearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary Bearers will be Terry “Red” Calahan, Bobby Hunolt, Jane Heimer, Shirley Stevenson, Mike Kinsel and Allen Gudehus.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Dale Nichols may be left to the Greensburg Cemetery Association. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home, 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
