Anne Helene Byland Downing, 83, formerly of Edina, MO passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Lake George Assisted Living Home in Columbia, Missouri.
Anne was born on October 6, 1931 in rural Monroe City, MO, the daughter of Thomas E. and Ruby Umstaddt Byland.
She attended Public Schools in Hannibal, Edina and Monroe City, Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri, with a BS Degree in History and a Masters Degree in Art History.
Anne married Donald Anderson Downing, on September 30, 1965 and they made their home in Edina, Missouri. She continued to make Edina her home until she moved to Columbia, Missouri in 2009.
Anne was a former Public School Teacher and Art Curator. She was a member of the Missouri Audubon Society, Descendants of the Mayflower Society, as well as other numerous organizations.
Anne is survived by a sister, Elsie Byland of Columbia, MO and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Downing on January 7, 2008, her parents, her brothers James T. Byland, and Benjamin A. Byland.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery in Newark, Missouri.
