Leroy Oberholtzer


 

    Leroy W. Oberholtzer, 76, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at his residence in Memphis, Missouri, with his family by his side.

    Leroy was born on March 10, 1939, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, the son of Levi and Lizzie Weaver Oberholtzer.

    On January 14, 1961, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Leroy married Miriam S. Martin and to this union six children were born.

    Leroy and Miriam left Pennsylvania for Northeast Missouri in the spring of 1975 to make their home. They purchased a dairy farm, east of Memphis, Missouri, and continued to farm until his retirement in 1999, and they moved into Memphis, Missouri.

    He is survived by his wife Miriam of the home in Memphis, Missouri; four sons, Glen and Elaine Oberholtzer, Wayne and Martha Oberholtzer, Ellis and Sharon Oberholtzer and Merle and Marilyn Oberholtzer all of Memphis, Missouri; two daughters, Wilma and Harold Horst of Baring, Missouri and Joyce and Raymond Zimmerman of Cantril, Iowa; five brothers and one sister, Paul and Mary Edna Oberholtzer of Curtiss, Wisconsin, Lloyd and Esther Oberholtzer of Richland, Pennsylvania, Irvin and Edith Oberholtzer of Rutledge, Missouri, Abner and Leora Oberholtzer of Gorin, Missouri, Amos and Alma Oberholtzer of Owen, Wisconsin, and Martin and Esther Huber of Rutledge, Missouri; forty-four grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Hoover and Grace Huber; two sisters-in-law, Verna Oberholtzer and Anna Oberholtzer; and a grandson, Shawn Oberholtzer.

    Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. at the Indian Creek Mennonite Church south of Memphis, Missouri.

    Visitation will be Monday, June 22, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hillcrest Mennonite Community Center south of Memphis, Missouri.

    Burial will be in the Indian Creek Mennonite Cemetery south of Memphis, Missouri.

    Luke Fox, Talmon Martin, Earl Oberholtzer and Vernon Oberholtzer will officiate and Casket Bearers will be Merlin Oberholtzer, Gerald Oberholtzer, James Oberholtzer, Brandon Zimmerman, Kent Horst and Reuben Oberholtzer.
