Verna Brubaker


 

    Verna B. (Horst) Brubaker, 86, of Rutledge, Missouri went to her reward, January 23, 2015, at her residence near Rutledge, Missouri. (She had a home on the Mark Martin property the past four years.)

    Verna was born on October 27, 1928, in Goodville, Pennsylvania, to the late Rufus and Lizzie (Burkholder) Horst.

    On November 5, 1949, Verna married Alvin B. Brubaker. They were married 58 years until his death on December 21, 2007. Verna was a member of the Millport Mennonite Church south of Rutledge, Missouri.

    She is survived by their eight children, Edwin and (Esther Hoover) Brubaker of Memphis, MO, Miriam and (Paul Reiff) of Mohnton, PA, Rachel and (Marlin High) of Lebanon, PA, Ruth and (Edwin Horst) of Memphis, MO, Mary and (Mark Martin) of Rutledge, MO, Martha and (Marlin Martin) of Loyal, WI, Raymond and (Julia Hoover) Brubaker of Centerview, MO and Linda and (Ralph Burkholder), of Downing, MO; forty-eight grandchildren and one hundred-sixteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Edith (widow of Jonas) Zimmerman of Lebanon, PA and Elizabeth (widow of Titus) Hoover of Lititz, PA. Two sisters-in-law, Grace (widow of Earl) Horst and Janis (widow of Irvin) Horst. Verna was also preceded in death by two grandchildren Elaine Brubaker and Jerome Horst, and three sisters, Edna B. Martin, Susie B. Brubaker and Alta B. Martin, four brothers, Ivan B. Horst, Earl B. Horst, Irvin B. Horst and Rufus B. Horst.

    Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Millport Mennonite Church south of Rutledge, Missouri.

    Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Hillcrest Mennonite Community Center south of Rutledge, Missouri.

    Burial will be in the Millport Mennonite Cemetery south of Rutledge, Missouri.

    Officiating the services will be Abner Oberholtzer, Earl Oberholtzer, Carl Hoover and Calvin Hoover. Casket Bearers will be Lowell Brubaker, Marlin High Jr., Stephen Horst, Marcus Martin, Travis Burkholder and Carl Martin.

    The family requests no flowers, only your presence and prayers. The Doss Funeral Home, of Edina, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
