    Erlene B. Kelley, 99, of Edina, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Erlene was born on September 11, 1915, in Shelby County, Missouri, the only child of James Hurley and Sarah Rebecca Green Brown.

    She attended the Shelbyville High School graduating from the Class of 1933. Erlene attended Chillicothe Business College from 1935 through 1937, when she was called home to work for the USDA Farm Program in Shelby County, Missouri.

    She transferred to the State USDA Office in Columbia, Missouri and retired in 1973 after 37 years of service. Erlene also worked a number of years in the Knox County Clerk’s office in Edina, Missouri.

    On August 30, 1942, Erlene married John B. Kelley, in Shelby County and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1989.

    Erlene is survived by numerous cousins, including, Joyce Green of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Betty and her husband Paul Hayes of St. Louis, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Charles Kelley of Edina, Missouri; a niece, Joyce Kayaleh of St. Louis, Missouri; along with numerous friends.

    Erlene was an active member of the First Christian Church of Edina, Missouri, serving as treasurer for a number of years. She was also a very active member of the Liberty Home Extension Club, the Knox County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and was very active in the Knox County Historical Society.

    She was preceded in death by her father, James, in 1965, her mother, Sarah, in 1984, her husband, John, in 1989, and a sister-in-law, Erma Kelley in 2009.

    Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning until service time at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.

    Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.   

    Officiating will be Reverend DeWayne Wellborn and music will be provided by Rita Worthington and Brent Karhoff performing, “How Great Thou Art”, “In the Garden”, and “Beyond the Sunset”. Casket Bearers will be Steve Miller, Jim Gibbons, Ray Prebe, Rick Gregory, Dick Hopkins and Michael Bishop along with Honorary Bearers, Mary Delaney, Francie Delaney, Carol Lee Bishop, Annie Fisher, Pat Miller and Janice McGinnis.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Erlene Kelley may be left to the First Christian Church of Edina, the Knox County Relay for Life or the Linville Cemetery Association. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
