Sherman Dale Leckbee

Funeral Services for Sherman Dale Leckbee of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Robert Leckbee of Edina, MO will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Chester Koch, Jess Wilson, Rob Murphy, David Davis, Sid Leckbee and Ronnie Vaughn.

Mr. Leckbee, 72, passed away Thursday morning, December 29, 2011. Born October 5, 1939 in Newark, MO, he was the son of Sherman Levi and Ora Rachel Akins Leckbee. He graduated from Novelty High School in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He owned and operated Elsberry Auto Body since 1976. Mr. Leckbee was a member of American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry and loved sports, playing horseshoes, Nascar and was a proud St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of Novelty United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Rachel Leckbee; three sisters: Millie Shores, Norma Bodwell and Faye Smithy; and five brothers: Jess, Noble, Eugene, Harry and Norman Leckbee.

Survivors include two children: David Leckbee and his wife, Tami, of Elsberry and Tammy Murphy and her husband, Rob, also of Elsberry; five grandchildren: Keisha Robinson and her husband, Dustin, Kayla Murphy, Madison Leckbee, Georgia Knock and Marley Knock; and one sister, Neva Shores and her husband, Gene, of Shelbina, MO. He also leaves his special friend, Marie Nealon of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #226 or American Heart Association in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
