    Gregg Swann, 44, of Bronx, New York, formerly of Novelty, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at his home in Bronx, New York.

    Gregg was born on August 30, 1966, in Novelty, Missouri the son of Marion and Martha Kriegshauser Swann.

    Gregg was the youngest of seven children, he grew up on the family farm near Novelty, Missouri. He attended the St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from the Knox County High School, in Edina, Missouri, in the class of 1984. Gregg earned a degree in economics for the University of Missouri-Columbia and pursued a career as a musician and songwriter.

    After graduation he moved to Philadelphia, and later, New York. He lived in Greenwich Village and performed frequently, eventually competing on the nationally syndicated television program “Star Search”. He was signed to a recording contract by Dalin Records and played a series of engagements in England and Europe; his songs were heard on the NBC-TV program “Homicide-Life on the Streets”, and on ABC-TV’s “All My Children”.

    On July 13, 2001, Gregg married Yvette Reyes and they lived in Riverdale, New York with their son, Peter. Gregg was employed with Lazard Inc. of Manhattan, New York.

    After he was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, Gregg refused to be defined by his illness. He continued to work, write, perform and enjoy travel and visits with family and friends.        

    Gregg is survived by his wife Yvette Swann of Bronx, New York, a son, Peter Swann of Bronx, New York; four brothers, Raymond and his wife Sherri Swann of Liberty, Illinois, Bruce and his wife Debbie Swann of Urbana, Illinois, Kurt Swann of San Diego, California, John and his wife Patricia Swann of Utica, New York, two sisters, Margaret and her husband Gary Gibson of Edina, and Mary Bayles of St. Louis, Missouri, an aunt, Ruth Parks of Topeka, Kansas, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    Gregg was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Swann, on December 11, 1985, and Martha Swann, on April 26, 2006.

    Friends and family may call at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York 10471, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, February 4 & 5th , 2011.
