Charles Earl Gossman, 89, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
Charles was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on October 19, 1928, the son of Edward D. and Mamie Elizabeth Owen Gossman.
He was raised in Lancaster, Missouri and attended the Lancaster High School before serving his country in the United States Navy. Charles returned home and attended Gem City School, in Quincy, Illinois, to learn watch repair and jewelry. After repairing watches alongside the local shoe repairman, he purchased the building on the square in Edina and opened Gossman Jewelry. They operated the jewelry store until his partial retirement in 1992, when his son Randy took over the store. He continued to help out just to keep busy.
On June 2, 1951, in Kirksville, Missouri, he married JoAnn Jackson, whom he met at the “Leo’s Roller Rink” and they never skated alone in life.
He was a member of the Edina Christian Church, serving as deacon and church board member. They loved to live in the country and grow things and shared the harvest with friends.
Charles is survived by his wife, JoAnn Gossman of Edina, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Gossman of Bloomington, Illinois; two grandchildren, Zachary Gossman of New York, New York and Stephanie and Devin Rode of Adel, Iowa; one sister, Marjorie West of Memphis, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Randy Charles Gossman on October 16, 2010 and Rodney Earl Gossman on November 24, 2012; four brothers, Harry, Joe and Ervin Slater and Frank Gossman; two sisters, Josie Saner and LaVern White.
A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, with the family receiving friends till service time at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.
Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.
Reverend Maynard Blackwood will officiate and music will be provided by Rita Worthington and Wynona Banks.
