Raymond A. Appel, 84, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Raymond was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Marion County, Mo., to Arthur and Bessie Weller Appel. Raymond was married to Mary Lou Howell July 16, 1949, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives of the home.
Survivors include: sons, Marvin R. Appel of Loveland, Ohio, Dennis C. Appel of Lewisville, Texas; granddaughters, Noelle Appel of Temple, Texas, Natalie Appel of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Appel of Palmyra; niece, Mary Jording of St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Fred Appel.
Mr. Appel was an area supervisor with the Missouri Department of Transportation retiring after 40 years of service.
He was a 1946 graduate of Palmyra High School. Mr. Appel was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He later became a lifetime member of the Emmette J. Shield American Legion Post No. 55 in Hannibal as well as the Hannibal VFW. Ray was a member of the Hannibal Masonic Lodge No. 28 and the Missouri State Retirees. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at his camp on Salt River and bowling. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra and attended the Arch Methodist Church in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. David Scott will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.
