Paul Edward Sharp, 82, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
He was born in Edina, Missouri, on December 15, 1929, the son of Francis David and Carrie Kruger Sharp.
Paul was raised on the family farm southwest of Edina, Missouri and attended the St. Joseph Catholic School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict serving 16 months in Korea.
On November 17, 1956, in Adair, Missouri, Paul married Cecilia Margaret Farley. They lived in Edina before moving to the farm at the west edge of town in 1972. They sold the farm and moved back into town in 1998.
Paul was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kirksville Moose Lodge and had been a member of the Knox County VFW Post.
Paul enjoyed farming, riding around Edina and the surrounding area but most of all he loved the time spent with family.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul Dean Sharp and his friend Tammy Walker of Kirksville, Missouri; a daughter, Frances Ann and her husband Jerry Holman of Edina, Missouri; one brother, Gerald and his wife Rebecca Sharp of Edina, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Roberta Frances and her husband Larry Ward of Alpha, Illinois; six grandchildren, Melissa and her husband Ron Tennyson of Kirksville, Missouri, Sarah Beth and her husband John Anderson of Kirksville, Missouri, Angie and her husband Duane Miller of Columbia, Missouri, Michael Sharp of Kirksville, Missouri Joey Sharp and his fiancé Jennifer Hawkins of Kirksville, Missouri, and Brandon Holman of Edina, Missouri.; four great grandchildren, Lacey Tennyson of Kirksville, Missouri, Brett and Hanna Miller both of Columbia, Missouri and Kilynn Anderson of Kirksville, Missouri; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Carrie Sharp; his wife Cecila Sharp on October 27, 2008; one daughter, Brenda Kay Burkhardt in 1997; a granddaughter, Savanna Jo Sharp in 1983; and a brother, Robert Sharp.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. A Christian Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Interment, with Military Honors by Knox County American Legion and VFW Posts, will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.
Father Joseph Hoi will officiate and music will be provided by Nancy Reardon and Lisa Blake. Pall Bearers will be Terry “Red” Callahan, Scott Ward, Mike Davidson, Jim Sharp, Mike Phelps and Deanna McKenzie.
