Gerald Patrick “Pat” Marra, 70, of Edina, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010, north of Plevna, Missouri.
Pat was born on May 1, 1940, near Baring, Missouri, the son of Glennon F. and Mary Killday Marra.
He was raised in the Baring Community and attended Baring Elementary and High School in the Class of 1959. Pat was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, Missouri and later the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.
On February 23, 1963 Pat married Ruby Janice Hettinger and to this union three sons were born.
He retired in 2002, after more than 30 years, with Quincy Compressor, Colt Industries in Quincy, Illinois. Since his retirement Pat enjoyed spending time farming and was hauling grain during harvest for the Dooley family that he thought of as his extended family.
Pat is survived by his three sons, James Francis Marra and his fiancé Morgan of Kirksville, Missouri, Greggory Allen and his wife Cindy Marra of Edina, Missouri and Charles Lee “Chuck” Marra of Moberly, Missouri; three grandchildren, Brandon James Marra, Kaitlin Christine Marra and James Rhylen Marra; two step grandchildren, LeAnne Cynthia Babbette Porterfield and Stephen Clay Eldridge; eight step great-grandchildren, Destini Nicole Lynn Best, Kirsten Lee Best, Jacob Christopher Porterfield, Matthew Stephen Bilyeu, Kailee Jean Elizabeth Bilyeu, Jasmine Marie Eldridge, Hannah Nicole Eldridge and Aleah Nicole Testerman; a brother, Tom Marra of Kirksville, Missouri; three sisters, Annie Fisher of Edina, Missouri, Margaret O’Donnell of Edina, Missouri and Linda and her husband Jim Fox of Chillicothe, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne and her husband Jack McCauley of Edina, Missouri, Sharon and her husband Donnie Strange of Knox City, Missouri and Loretta Marra of Eldon, Missouri; a close friend Kay Dooley of Edina, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Glennon and Mary Marra; a brother, Jack Marra; a sister-in-law, Patty Marra; and brothers-in-law, Benny Fisher, Gene O’Donnell and James “Jimmy” Hettinger.
A mass of Christian burial will be Friday, November 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri
Burial will be St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.
Father Bill Kottenstette will be the celebrant and music will be provided by Nancy Reardon and Brent Karhoff. Pallbearers will be Chris O’Donnell, Roger McCauley, Danny Marra, Keith Strange, Chris Dooley and Kenny Dooley.
