    Mary Louise Schroeder, 81, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

    Mary was born on April 30, 1927, in Baring, Missouri, the daughter of Walter Shubert Jr. and Margaret Anna Coslett Shubert.

     She was raised in the Baring and Edina Community and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1945 as valedictorian. She worked for the Farmers Supply and Ben Franklin before working for the school district, as a secretary  to Bessie Hudson. She taught at the Knox City and Novelty Elementary Schools, and taught for 17 years at the Knox County High School, at St. Joseph Elementary, teaching Spanish for 1 year before working for the priest at the St. Joseph Catholic Rectory.

    Mary was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, served as an officer of St. Ann's and the Edina Senior Housing. She was also a member of the Missouri Teachers Association and the Baring Country Club.

    On October 5, 1948, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Mary married Lawrence Schroeder and to this union four children were born.

    Mary enjoyed reading and fishing, but most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family.

    Mary is survived by her husband, Lawrence Schroeder of Edina, Missouri; four children, Dennis and his wife Vickie Schroeder of Columbia, Missouri, Elaine and her husband Francisco Lugo of Groveland, Florida, Elizabeth and her husband David Bradley of Palmyra, Missouri and Christina and her husband Tim Betz of Hamilton, Ohio; four brothers, Bill Shubert of Edina, Missouri, Victor Shubert of Hannibal, Missouri, Francis "Frank" Shubert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jerry Shubert of Taylor, Missouri; three sisters, Irene and her husband Dale Nichols of Edina, Missouri, Janice and her husband Kim Smith of Edina, Missouri and Jane and her husband Lanny Bowen of Kirksville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Ashley Schroeder, Dustin Ferguson, Skee and his wife Kayla Ferguson, Angela Bradley, Sarah Bradley, Kelsey Betz, Shelby Betz, and Lauren Betz; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, including Lawrence's cousin Luella Johnson of San Diego, California, and a host of friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Shubert; a sister-in-law, Libby Shubert; a brother, James Ray Shubert in infancy; a brother-in-law, Donald Schroeder;  and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schroeder in infancy.

     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri, with a Christian Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

    Burial will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.

    Father Joseph Hoi will officiate and music will be provided by Jim and Kyle Clark. Pall Bearers will be Tim Betz, David Bradley, Francisco Lugo, Bill Delaney, Larry Hayes, and Joe Delaney and Honorary Bearers will be Kim Smith, John Haddick, Alan Morgret, Dan Niemeyer, Terry Hunolt and Clint Miller.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Mary Schroeder may be left to the St. Joseph Catholic Church as a Mass or to the Restoration Fund. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina Missouri 63537.
