Lewis Whiles

    Lewis Wayne Whiles, 63, of Novelty, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012, at the University of Missouri Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri.

    Lewis was born on November 15, 1949, in Kewanee, Illinois, the son of Billy Carlos and Kathryn Louise Martin Whiles.

    He graduated from the Rock Falls High School in the Class of 1967. After graduation he served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.

    On December 8, 1967, in Sterling, Illinois, Lewis married Nellie “Darlene” Jones and to this union three children were born. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2006.

    Lewis married Norma Marie Ray on September 1, 2007, in Novelty, Missouri and she survives of the home.

    He enjoyed his life as a truck driver for ATI and worked a couple years for Wahl Clippers in Sterling, Illinois before moving to Novelty, Missouri in 1994. He owned Sugar Bears Café in Edina, Missouri until his retirement.

    Lewis enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing for catfish in his favorite ponds, and had been a member or the VFW in Rock Falls, Illinois.

    He is survived by his wife, Norma Whiles of Novelty, Missouri; three sons, Lewis Whiles, Jr. of Quincy, Illinois, Troy Whiles of Novelty, Missouri and William “Bill” and his wife Annette Whiles of Edina, Missouri; a daughter, Fawn and her husband Brian Moncrief of Davenport, Iowa; a step daughter, Susan Bland of Florida; two brothers, Michael Whiles of Novelty, Missouri and Ricky and his wife Sandy Whiles of Hurdland, Missouri; three sisters, Connie and her husband Jim Lange of Rock Falls, Illinois, Susan and her husband Rick Chaffee of Dixon, Illinois, and Cindy Pro of Lyndon, Illinois; six grandchildren, Damen Whiles, Samantha Whiles, Katie Whiles, Tristan Whiles, Halia Whiles, and Robert Whiles; four step grandchildren, James Bland, Michael Gaddy, Frank Voger and Shane Voger; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of neighbors and friends.

    Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Kathryn Whiles and his wife, Nellie “Darlene” Whiles.

    Following his wishes cremation will follow and private family graveside services will be held at a later date at the Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls, Illinois, with Full Military Honors.

    Local arrangements are under the direction of the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
