    John Edward “Jack” McCurren, 77, of Edina, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

    Jack was born on December 2, 1932, in Stoutsville, Missouri, the son of Robert Hugh, Sr. and Margaret Lenora Bevil McCurren.

    He attended elementary school in Paris, Missouri before moving to Edina his Senior Year to graduate from the Edina High School in the Class of 1951.

    On June 6, 1951, at the St. Stephens Catholic Church in  Indian Creek “Swinkey”, Missouri, Jack married Julia L. Hays.

    Jack served with the 102nd Replacement Unit in Memphis, Missouri of the Army National Guard. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri, served as president of the Lions Club for many years, was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, a member of the Edina and Baring Country Clubs, an avid Democrat and St. Louis Cardinals Fan. Most days he could be found visiting at Caseys, visiting the library, watching the St. Louis Cardinals or NASCAR and enjoying life.

    Jack and brother, Tom, opened McCurren Maytag Store in Edina, Missouri in 1951, in 1954 he moved the store to Clarence, Missouri. Jack and Julie returned to Edina in 1956 and Jack was an agent for State Farm Insurance for more than 44 years retiring in 2003.

    He is survived by his wife, Julie of Edina, Missouri; six children, Ric and his wife Patty McCurren of Fairfield, Iowa, Donna and her husband Don Gagne of Placerville, California, Don McCurren and his friend Betsy Ayers of Edina, Missouri, Debbie and her husband Steve Edwards of Edina, Missouri, Kent and his wife Debbie McCurren of Edina, Missouri and Rodney and his wife Betty McCurren of Ashland, Missouri; a brother, James and his wife Phyllis McCurren of O’Fallon, Missouri; a sister, Pat and her husband Bill Matticks of Grain Valley, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends.

    Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret McCurren, Sr.; his step mother, Ethel McCurren; a son, Randy McCurren; two brothers, Tom and Bob McCurren; two sisters, Mavis Arends and Betty Dollenger.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. A Christian Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

    Burial will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.

    Father Bill Kottenstette and Fr. Joseph Hoi will celebrate the mass and music will be provided by Jim and Kyle Clark and Nancy Reardon. Pall Bearers will be his Grandchildren along with Honorary Bearers, Casey Barnhill, Jim Gibbons, Jerome Kurth, Dudley Gillaspy, Sam Myers, Jerome Kriegshauser, Ted Hildgeford, Bruce Normile, Richard Brewer, John Sitton, Tom Deveny, Bill Alberty and John Briscoe.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Jack McCurren may be left to the St. Joseph Church Restoration Fund, the Nutrition Site or the Library. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
