    Julia “Julie” Loretta McCurren, 78, of Edina, Missouri passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

    Julie was born on May 8, 1933 in Indian Creek, “Swinkey”, Missouri, the daughter of C.E. and Johanna Lillis Walker Hays.

    She attended and graduated Valedictorian from the Swinkey High School in the Class of 1952.

    Julie met John Edward “Jack” McCurren, at the Swinkey Picnic and they were married on June 6, 1951, in the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Indian Creek, Missouri.

    Jack and Julie were members of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri, where she served on the St. Ann’s Altar Society for a number of years. She was also a member of the Baring Country Club, Edina Country Club, an avid Democrat and a St. Louis Cardinal Fan.

    In 1951 they moved to Edina, Missouri where they ran the McCurren Maytag Store then moved to Clarence, Missouri in  1954 and returned to Edina, Missouri in 1956, when they opened McCurren State Farm Insurance, and continued to operate until Jack’s retirement in 2003. Julie enjoyed helping out at the Knox County Nutrition Site, Meals on Wheels and visiting the Knox County Library. Julie was Knox County Public Administrator for a number of years and was Chair Person for the Knox County March of Dimes for many years organizing the bread drive with the high school kids. She was also a member of the Knox County Not Ready for Primetime Players and ran the License Bureau for several terms. She loved her kids and enjoyed keeping up with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Julie is survived by six children, Ric and his wife Patty McCurren of Fairfield, Iowa, Donna and her husband Don Gagne of Placerville, California, Don McCurren and his friend Betsy Ayers of Edina, Missouri, Debbie and her husband Steve Edwards of Edina, Missouri, Kent and his wife Debbie McCurren of Edina, Missouri and Rodney and his wife Betty McCurren of Ashland, Missouri; a sister, Marcella Kendrick of Shelbina, Missouri; two brothers, Paul and his wife Jennie Walker of Monroe City, Missouri and Tom and his wife Jane Hays of the Quad Cities, Illinois; a brother-in-law, James and his wife Phyllis McCurren of O’Fallon, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lucille Hays of Shelbina, Missouri and Pat and her husband Bill Matticks of Grain Valley, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends.

    Julie was preceded in death by her husband Jack McCurren on August 8, 2010, a son, Randy McCurren in infancy; three sisters, Emma Jo Keller, Bertha Hays and Ethel Mae Campbell; four brothers, Pete, Frank, William and Harold Hays.                                                                                         

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening.

    Burial will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Missouri.

    Fr. Joseph Hoi, Father Bill Kottenstette and Deacon Ken Berry will celebrate the mass and music will be provided by Jim and Kyle Clark, Nancy Reardon and Maria Berry. Pall Bearers will be her Grandchildren along with Honorary Bearers, Rose Ann Klote, Sandy Barnhill, Margie DeRosear, Lila Hilgeford, Jill McCurren, Dottie Kriegshauser and Ann Sue Campbell.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Julie McCurren may be left to the Nutrition Site or the Library. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
