    Ella “Irene” Nichols, 78, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Missouri.

    On September 2, 1934, in Edina, Missouri, Irene was born the daughter of Walter Jr. and Margaret Anna Coslett Shubert.

    On September 27, 1952, in Edina, Missouri, Irene married Dale Bruce Nichols.

    They raised six children while living in Baring, Greensburg, Ft. Madison, Hurdland and Edina over the years. Irene graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1952, attended nursing school in Kirksville, Missouri, and worked for Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital for more than 25 years. She had also worked at the Knox County Nursing Home and the Glove Factory in Edina, Missouri. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting but most of all she loved time spent with family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    She was a member of the Baring Community Church and had also been a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Greensburg, Missouri.

    Irene is survived by two sons, Jerry and his wife Clara Nichols of Knox City, Missouri and Jamie Nichols of Knox City, Missouri; four daughters, Victoria and her husband Terry Sadler of Macon, Missouri, Donna Miller of Ocala, Florida, Jennifer and her husband Gary Bradley of Kirksville, Missouri and Cheryl and her husband Hermann Spilker of Bethel, Missouri; sisters, Jane and her husband Lanny Bowen of Kirksville, Missouri and Janice and her husband Kim Smith of Edina, Missouri; brothers, Victor Shubert of Hannibal, Missouri, Jerry “Jake” Shubert of Taylor, Missouri, and Francis “Frank” Shubert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Lawrence Schroeder of Edina, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Madeline Nichols of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Helen Nichols of LaPlata, Missouri, Opal Arnold of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Wilma and her husband Gil Rubio of Alpina, Michigan;  grandchildren, Jason and Tabitha Nichols, P.J. Nichols, Lesleigh Furry, Angela and Joe Shaw, Julie and Matt Campbell, Jennifer and Rob Cerda, Saricca and Jason Taunton, Collin and Brittany Miller, Jesse Bradley, Maggie Bradley, Benjamin Spilker, Wyatt Spilker, Christopher Nichols, Corey Nichols and Johnathan Nichols; fifteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Nichols;  a son-in-law, Wayne Miller;  brothers, Bill Shubert and James Ray Shubert in infancy; sister, Mary Schroeder; sisters-in-law, Libby Shubert and Virginia Nichols, Martha Pettit; brothers-in-law, Jewel “Red”, Wayne and John “J.P.” Nichols, Don “Bud” Arnold and Stanley Pettit; three grandsons, Nicholas Dale Spilker, Jeremy Dale Niles and Travis Atlee Bradley.

    Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Burial will be in the Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg, Missouri.

    Pastor John Davison will officiate and Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Irene Nichols may be left to the Greensburg Cemetery Association. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home, 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
