Gail Gooch Lorey, 95, of Baring, Missouri formerly of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
Gail was born on January 13, 1916, in Hurdland, Missouri, the daughter of Levi and Etta M. Conder Vansickle.
She attended the Mt. Vernon Rural School, south of Hurdland, Missouri and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1932.
On December 24, 1935, in Edina, Missouri, Gail married George M. Gooch and to this union three children were born.
Gail and George lived on the farm south of Hurdland, Missouri for more than 25 years before moving into Hurdland. After he passed away on January 6, 1982, Gail moved to Edina, Missouri and later to Baring, Missouri to make her home.
On June13, 1987, in Kirksville Missouri, Gail married Jake Lorey and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1991.
She was employed for several years at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, in food services. Gail served on the board of directors for the Knox County Nutrition Site for many years. She was very active in the All School Reunion at Hurdland, serving as Master of Ceremonies. She loved to play cards, quilt, and made thousands of crochet pieces over the years.
Gail was a member of the Hurdland Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, the Colony Methodist Church and later attended the Baring Community Church. She was also a member of the Colony Chapter #543 Order of Eastern Star and played the piano on many occasions.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma F. and her husband Bill Slocum of Granbury, Texas; a son, Gary G. and his wife Brenda Gooch of Rutledge, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Gooch of Monmouth, Illinois; a sister, Etta Marie Fitzgerald of Labadie, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tony Gooch, Wendy and her husband Craig Twomey, Shana and her husband Todd Kagel, Stacey and her husband Joe Mendoza, Cindy and her husband Rob Licalsi, Justin and his wife Tiara Gooch and Jennifer McKay; fifteen great grandchildren, Brett Gooch, Kyle Gooch, Brittany Gooch, Austin Twomey, Liz Twomey, Nolan Twomey, Cameron Kagel, Drew Kagel, Kelli Kagel, Jamie Mendoza, Ryan Licalsi, Shea Licalsi, Jayce Gooch, Jayda Gooch, and Isaac Gooch; a great great grandson; along with a host of friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Etta Vansickle; husbands, George Gooch and Jake Lorey; a son, Marshall L. and his wife Karen Kite Gooch and a brother Leonard Vansickle and a sister, Sadie M. Aucutt
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. An Order of Eastern Star Service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Burial will be in the I.O.O. F. Cemetery in Hurdland, Missouri.
Pastor John Davison will officiate and Casket Bearers will be Hadley Bowen, Larry Sykes, Norman Primm, Curt Goodwin, Tim Schrage and Bill Riggins.
