    Helen “Caroline” Hartsock, 93, of Novelty, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012, at the Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly, Missouri.

    Caroline was born on December 27, 1918, in Clarence, Missouri, the daughter of Arch and Pearl Wilson Hunsaker.

    She attended school in Clarence, Missouri before her family moved to Novelty, Missouri, where she graduated from the Novelty High School in the Class of 1939. She continued her education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and taught rural schools and the Leonard and Novelty Schools for a number of years.

    On December 5, 1946, in Shelbina, Missouri, Caroline married Delbert Ross Hartsock.

    They moved to a farm south of Novelty, Missouri to raise their children on the farm. Caroline continued to live on the farm until her health failed and she moved to Moberly, Missouri to be near her daughter.

    Caroline was very active in the Novelty Christian Church and received recognition for more than 40 years of service with the Green Acres FCE. She was also a member of the Perry Sunshine Club and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, making crafts and rooting on her St. Louis Cardinals.

    She is survived  by her daughter, Carol and her husband Thurlow Schauffler of Huntsville, Missouri; two sons, Dennis and his wife Susan Hartsock of Oregon, Missouri and Darwin and Tami Hartsock of Newark, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Drew Schauffler, Shan Schauffler, Neisha and her husband Casey Hairston, Major Heath Hartsock, Amanda Markt, Caleb and his wife Stephanie Hartsock, Rebekah Hartsock, and Joshua Hartsock; six great grandchildren, Harper, Reid and Maclyn Hairston, Aubrey and Trevor Markt and Kayden Hartsock; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

    Caroline was preceded in death by her parents Arch and Pearl Hunsaker; husband Delbert Hartsock on April 7, 1999; a granddaughter, Hannah Hartsock on January 30, 1998; two brothers, Darwin Dean and Bob Dean and a sister, Ada Hays.

     Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, with the family greeting friends from 12:00 noon until service time, at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.

    Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery in La Plata, Missouri.

    Brother Tim Gibson will officiate and music will be provided by Gary Fagan and Marilyn Lincoln. Casket Bearers will be her grandsons, Major Heath Hartsock, Caleb Hartsock, Joshua Hartsock, Drew Schauffler, Shan Schauffler, Casey Hairston and Brock Nagel. Honorary Bearers will be her granddaughters, Amanda Markt, Neisha Hairston and Rebekah Hartsock.

    An expression of sympathy in memory of Caroline Hartsock may be left to the Novelty Christian Church or the Green Acres Extension Scholarship Fund. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
