Robert Lee Cahalan


Bobbie_0.jpg       Robert Lee "Bob" Cahalan, 76, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Bob was born on December 17, 1931, in Edina, Missouri, the son of Raymond E. and Florence Louise Kriegshauser Cahalan.

    Upon graduating from St. Joseph High School, Bob entered the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict.  On September 12, 1959, in Baring, Missouri, Bob married Mary Patricia "Susie" Early.

    Bob owned and operated the Cahalan Oil Company and White Castle Station and his family continues to operate them today.  The businesses have been in the family since 1931.  Bob prided himself on providing top-notch customer service always making it a point to help out those in need of service, day or night.

    He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W, Edina Fire Department, St. Joseph School
Board, and Baring and Edina Country Clubs.  Bob loved God, his wife, his family and his community.

    Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Patricia "Susie" Early Cahalan of the home in Edina, Missouri; ten children, Jan and her husband Ralph Agee of Liberty, Missouri, Mary Ann and her husband Jerry Robison of Overland Park, Kansas, Dianne and her husband Dave Wilderson of Lenexa, Kansas, Steve and his wife Michelle of Edina, Missouri, Sherry and her husband Kevin Goodwin of Edina, Missouri, Kathleen Bruegenhemke of Columbia, Missouri, Gary and his fiance Ashley Parton of Edina, Missouri, Mark and his wife Andrea of Kirksville, Missouri, Julie and her husband Scott Hamann of Kansas City, Missouri, and Nancy and her husband Kirk Rourke of Kirksville, Missouri; twenty-nine grandchildren, Lisa and her husband Jeremy O'Dell of Liberty, Missouri, Lori Agee of Independence, Missouri, Brett and Lydia Agee of Liberty, Missouri, Andrew, Michael, Amanda, Daniel and Nicholas Robison of Overland Park, Kansas, Brittany, Meagan, and Matthew Wilderson of Lenexa, Kansas, Courtney, Kelsey, and Derek Cahalan of Edina, Missouri, Brandon and Nathan Goodwin of Edina, Missouri, Kaitlin, Drew, and Allie Bruegenhemke of Columbia, Missouri, Trysta Parton and Lexi Cahalan of Edina, Missouri, Dominic and Luke Cahalan of Kirksville, Missouri, Danielle and Ryan Hamann of Kansas City, Missouri, and Max, Abbey, and Faith Rourke of Kirksville, Missouri.

    Bob is also survived by a twin sister Dorothy Ann and her husband Larry Kelly of Springfield, Missouri, sister-in-law, Mary Cahalan of Kirksville, Missouri, and aunt, Parthena Cahalan of Edina, Missouri.

    In addition, Bob is also survived by brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law; Mike and his wife Karen Early of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bill and his wife Linda Early of Edina, Missouri, Ken and his wife Kay Montague of St. Charles, Illinois, Brad and his wife Betty Jo Early-Griffith of Webster Groves, Missouri; and Sheila Early of Bloomfield, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends far and wide.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray Cahalan, Jr., and son-in-law, Brian Bruegenhemke.

    Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri. 

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Father Joseph Hoi, Father Bill Miller, and Father Richard Bayuk will officiate and music will be provided by Jim and Kyle Clark and Carol Hayes.  Gift Bearers will be Larry and Dorothy Ann Kelly and Mary Cahalan, Reader, Jerry Robison, Altar Boys, Matt Kelly and Adam Wilkerson and Communion Ministers, Megan Wilderson, Amanda Robison, Lori Agee and Britney Wilderson.

    Pall Bearers will be grandsons, Brett Agee, Andrew, Michael, Daniel, and Nicholas Robison, Matthew Wilderson, Derek Cahalan, Brandon and Nathan Goodwin, Drew Bruegenhemke, Dominic and Luke Cahalan, Ryan Hamann, and Max Rourke.

    Burial, with Full Military Honors, will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery at Edina, Missouri by Cyril A Graham American Legion Post #261 and Knox County Memorial VFW Post #4822.

    An expression of sympathy may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church restoration project, Knox County Nursing Home, or Alzheimer's Association.  Memorials may be left at or mailed to Doss Funeral Home, 208 N. Fourth, Edina, Missouri.
