Marjorie was born on November 20, 1909, in Paris, Missouri, the daughter of Lawrence and Isabelle Rose Nooning Hayes.

    She graduated rural school near Knox City, Missouri before attending the Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois. She worked in the St. Louis County Courthouse before she married Norman W. Burke, in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 8, 1931.

    Marjorie and Norman moved to Baring, Missouri, and she was employed at both the St. Louis County Courthouse and the Knox County Courthouse, in Edina, Missouri. In 1950 they opened  the Burke Feed and Seed farm store, the in 1965 they built the Burke Elevator, which is now known as ADM in Baring, Missouri, both of which Marjorie helped run the businesses.

    Marjorie was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, Missouri, where she was involved in the building of the St. Aloysius Hall and the Grotto of the Blessed Mother. She was also a member of the Baring Country Club and worked beside Norman on many community boards and events.

    Marjorie is survived by a son, Larry Burke and his fiance Barb Salsberry of Kirksville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Chad and his wife Morgan Burke of Avondale, Arizona and Julie and her husband Randy Robinson of Gladstone, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Alex and James Burke and Kelly Robinson; a niece, Roberta DeStefano of Kirksville, Missouri; along with several cousins and a host of friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman in 2003; a daughter, Anne Marie Burke in 2007; four brothers, Matthew, Lawrence, Robert, and Paul Hayes; four sisters, Anna Glaves, Maurita Nicols, Beata Hannahan and Roberta DeStefano.

    A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baring, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. A Christian Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

    Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Baring, Missouri.

    Father Bill Kottenstette will officiate and music will be provided by Maggie Delaney, organist and Brent Karhoff, soloist. Pallbearers will be Craig Bowen, Bob Hunolt, Richard Witherow, Jim Reardon, Joe Delaney and Glennon Dromey and Honorary Bearers will be L. P. Pete Mayfield, Kenny Hustead, Donald Bruegenhemke, Kevin Moore and Hadley Bowen
