     Bonita Nichols, 79, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

    She was born on March 26, 1929, in Williamson County, Illinois, the daughter of Grant and Edith Black Richey.

    Bonita was raised in southern Illinois and moved to Hurdland, Missouri, to make her home, after she married James William Nichols on March 29, 1951, in Marion, Illinois.

    She had volunteered at the Northeast Regional Medical Center Gift Shop and was a member of the Hurdland United Methodist Church, where she had been active in Bible School up until her health no longer permitted.

    Bonita loved to read and enjoyed playing Pokeno at the nursing home, showing up well in advance of the time.

    Bonita is survived by two sons, Steve and his wife Jacqueline Nichols of Burlington, Iowa and Mark and his wife Kaye Nichols of Hurdland, Missouri; a sister, Maxine and her husband Ivan Harmon of Herrin, Illinois; a brother-in-law, J.C. Sherrard of Herrin, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jamie and her husband Adam Siegel of Burlington, Iowa, Laura Nichols of Burlington, Iowa, Quentin Nichols and his fiancĂ© Courtney Riley of Columbia, Missouri, Olivia and Emily Nichols both of the home in Hurdland, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Daniel James Siegel and Taylor Dawn Siegel both of the home in Burlington, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

    Bonita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Nichols in 1995; two brothers, Bill and Quentin Richey; five sisters, Elaine Howard, Lucille Odum, Marguerite Scofield, Kathryn Sherrard and Eva Louise Richey in infancy.

    Funeral services will be Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

    Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.

    Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hurdland, Missouri.

    Reverend Dennis Smith will officiate and music will be provided by Brent Karhoff and Nancy Reardon. Casket Bearers will be Lee Howerton, Rex Sykes, Jim Parrish, Larry Sykes, Quentin Nichols and Tom Dye.
